Hemophilia

Hemophilia A

A hereditary or acquired factor VIII deficiency can cause the coagulation disorder hemophilia A, while, on the other hand, increased factor VIII concentrations are a risk factor for venous thrombosis.

Our BIOPHEN™ Factor VIII is a chromogenic assay for measuring factor VIII activity. It contains reagents from human origin and is therefore fully sensitive to the factor VIII mimetic emicizumab (Hemlibra® by Roche) used in hemophilia A treatment. In case a test kit insensitive to Emicizumab is required, we offer a solution with our BIOPHEN™ Factor VIII (bovine reagent R1).  In sum, the BIOPHEN™ Factor VIII test kits allow measuring emicizumab in treated haemophiliacs (kit with human FX) and evaluating anti-FVIII inhibitor titres in presence of emicizumab (kit with bovine FX).

Because factor VIII inhibitors decrease the effectivity of hemophilia A therapy, it is important to quantify them in an inhibitor test. We provide a solution with our CRYOcheck™ Factor VIII Inhibitor Kit that contains all components necessary for performing a modified Nijmegen-Bethesda assay (MNBA) as recommended by the US CDC.

Hemophilia B

The coagulation disorder hemophilia B is caused by factor IX deficiency. Our chromogenic assay BIOPHEN™ Factor IX serves to measure factor IX activity in human citrated plasma or factor IX concentrates.

Information on control and calibration plasmas as well as other factor VIII and factor IX reagents can be found in our folder (German version).

Von Willebrand Factor / ADAMTS-13

Beside its role in primary hemostasis, the von Willbrand factor protects factor VIII against premature proteolytic degradation and secures its transport to where it is needed as co-factor in the course of secondary hemostasis. For the diagnosis of von Willebrand disease, we offer an ELISA for the determination of the collagen binding activity (ZYMUTEST™ vWF:CBA) and a latex-based immunoturbidimetric assay for the determination of von Willebrand factor antigen (LIAPHEN vWF:Ag)

Also worth mentioning is our 5-ELISA ADAMTS-13 Antigen Kit – an ELISA that allows rapid determination of ADAMTS-13 antigen and highest sensitivity.

We also provide solutions for other bleeding disorders, such as the BIOPHEN™ Factor XIII for the determination of factor XIII activity.
