An important function of platelets is primary haemostasis, in which they come into contact with collagen in the injured tissue, thereby activating them.
Congenital (e.g. Glanzmann Thrombasthenia, Bernard-Soulier syndrome, gray platelet syndrome, etc.) and acquired disorders (e.g. caused by medication or hematological diseases) that have an effect on primary hemostasis can be clinically investigated using aggregometry.
In addition, agonists, such as collagen, are used to test the effect of aggregation-inhibiting drugs.
